Enabling a family owned business to realise long term goals

In 2004, Permira invested in Marazzi Group alongside its founding investors, the Marazzi family. Permira has helped the business cement its position as the world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ceramic tiles.

Despite a recent downturn its core market, Marazzi has outperformed its rivals.

Permira bought the company outright with the founding Marazzi family in 2008, since when the market for building materials has been particularly badly hit. Despite that however, Marazzi’s market-leading position and strong international diversification has enabled it to outperform competitors and increase market share in all its key geographies.

Since last year, Permira has developed a number of initiatives to improve the company’s position and lay the foundations for further growth. The management team has been strengthened and further investments in production and marketing are planned with the objective of shifting the focus to higher margin products. There are also plans to improve further the efficiency of the distribution network by focusing on key customers and modeling the sales approach, service level and marketing strategy on customer needs and profile.
